Trump along with Japanese Recently Appointed Prime Minister Share Compliments and Commit to Strengthen ‘Extraordinary’ Bond

During a latest trip to Japan's capital, ex- American leader Donald Trump together with the Japanese recently elected Prime Minister Takaichi shared warm praise and pledged to enhance the currently strong two-way relations.

Key Points from the Meeting

Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and congratulated her on becoming Japan's inaugural female premier. In their discussions at the capital's official venue, Trump expressed confidence that Takaichi would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.

Takaichi, identified as a protégée of former Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, praised Trump's initiatives to address global disputes and according to sources pledged to put forward Trump for the prestigious award.

Economic and Defense Agreements

The two nations revealed a series of collaborative initiatives in sectors such as power, AI, and critical minerals. Japanese companies are exploring investments of up to $400bn in the US.

Additionally, Tokyo had earlier committed $550 billion in long-term American projects, loans, and guarantees as part of an arrangement to obtain relief from Trump's tariffs.

Such moves are seen as potentially easing any future requests from the US side for Japan to boost its military spending. Takaichi responded to this by promising to accelerate plans to increase defense spending to two percent of gross domestic product.
